50 Years On: Freddie Sheene Revives a Racing Legend in Recreated Dainese Leathers

Dainese has always had a strong affiliation with motorcycle racing. It’s a brand that is synonymous with racing safety and technical innovation.

A major ambassador, and a name forever linked with Dainese, is double 500cc World Champion and British racing icon Barry Sheene. This year marks the 50th anniversary of his first championship win, and to commemorate this major milestone, Dainese will be joining forces with Freddie Sheene to recreate his dad’s iconic leathers.

“It’s great to be asked to be asked by Dainese and I love being involved with Goodwood” , commented Freddie. “Goodwood has such a family vibe, I’ll be bringing my family along too which makes it special.

“Dad would be very happy to see his name being remembered in this way, he’d really like this.”

Freddie will be visiting Dainese HQ in Vicenza, Italy, later in the spring to experience the bespoke Custom Works service that is available to any member of the public who’d like to create their own one-off one-piece race suit. To take advantage of the Custom Works service in the UK you can currently visit Dainese’s flagship London store, the service will roll out to dealers nationwide at a later date. Freddie’s personalised leathers will incorporate the world-famous Sheene ‘7’ and stunningly bold colours, which perfectly capture the spirit of the 1970s racing era.

This unique, handcrafted racing suit will be worn by Freddie at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. (July 9-12) Fans will be able to join the Sheene anniversary celebrations and watch Freddie ride the famous Goodwood Hill on one of his father’s championship-winning race bikes
