Freddie Sheene to Mark the 50th Anniversary of his Father’s first World Championship win at Goodwood.
Press Release –It has been 50 years since Barry Sheene won the first of his two 500cc World Championships in 1976. Goodwood will mark this anniversary across its three motorsport festivals from its base in West Sussex.
Barry’s son, Freddie, who will be attending all three events, rode a 1978 Suzuki XR23 at last weekend’s Members’ Meeting. At the Festival of Speed in July, he is set to ride a selection of his father’s historic race bikes up the famous Goodwood Hill.
Freddie Sheene will appear at the annual festival, which attracts more than 200,000 visitors over the four live days (July 9–12), alongside various past and present superstars of the motorcycle racing world.
Big names at the 2026 Festival of Speed are expected to include Casey Stoner, Freddie Spencer, Kenny Roberts Sr. and Jr., Marco Melandri and John McGuinness.
Freddie will also be in attendance at the iconic Goodwood Revival weekend (September 18-20), where this year’s Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy race will include a poignant commemoration to the great man. A selection of his race-winning machines will be ridden in a special parade lap, prior to the trophy race and is a special way to remember the man who brought inspiration to generations of motorcycle racers across the globe..
Freddie has teamed up with Dainese, who are providing him with a specially designed, limited edition suit to wear for the Festival of Speed. This will be revealed nearer to the event and details of a special auction of this one of a kind suit will be announced.
